Fall Eco Club ideas

Its fall again and that means Eco Clubs are starting up again and brain storming for the year. Some easy and helpful Eco Club projects you can do to start off the year is to address a need and help divert textile waste parents may not consider are to host a used halloween costume drive or a share the warmth winter wear drive.

USED HALLOWEEN COSTUME DRIVE

Send out a letter home to parents explaining that they can donate their kids old used but still in good condition halloween costumes. Then have a week where students and parents can purchase the used costumes for around $1. It addresses a property need within the school that might be there while not singling out certain students. It addresses the “fast fashion” crisis that some textiles are bought worn once and the worn out causing more textiles in landfills. Any left over costumes you can donate to day cares, second hand stores or even your own kindergarten classrooms for imagination play. SHARE THE WARMTH

Share the warmth winter clothing drive is always a HUGE success at our school. To host a share the warmth winter clothing drive simply send out a letter to parents saying your are collecting in good condition used winter clothing wear like, snow pants, coats, hats and mitts. Then have the winter clothing out on tables for anyone to come and take what they need. We have this open to all students and parents so that we can address some of the poverty needs of some of our students while not singling them out. Making sure all of our students are dressed warm and properly for winter.
