Recycled Crayons

Students have been collecting crayons all year and today they got them all ready to make them into new recycled crayons for next years kindergarten class! We have included the recipe here if you would like to try this with your school. It was a super fun activity that taught the students how to take something old and make it new again.

Recycled Crayons Recipe

Sort the crayons into colors and remove all the paper. Then place them into oven safe silicone moulds. We used some chocolate moulds and some ice cube trays from ikea. Break the crayons into smaller pieces so they fill the mould. Pre heat the oven to 240F degrees and place the moulds filled with crayons onto an old cookie sheet. Leave in the oven until the crayons are completely melted, about 15 to 20 minutes. Then place them into the fridge to cool completely before popping them out. The chocolate mould were easier to remove the crayons from as the silicone was bendable. The ikea ones were a lot harder to remove but running hot water under them helped loosen them out.
